Privacy Policy

Movie Maker Studio Pro is built so that your production stays yours. Assembly, rendering and export all happen on your own computer. This page says what leaves it, when, and why.

Who this covers

This policy covers Movie Maker Studio Pro v8.1.1, the Windows desktop application, however you bought it: the Microsoft Store, Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy. It also covers the free browser edition at moviemakerstudio.iacolettisoftware.com, described further down.

What stays on your computer

Your generated clips, your reference photographs, your script and shot prompts, your soundtrack, your project files and your finished productions. Assembly, transitions, the timeline, preview, rendering, sound normalization and export run on your own computer and send none of your material anywhere, except narration: having the film narrated, or its spoken words replaced by an SI narrator, sends its sound and its lines, as described below. Everything lives in one folder on your own disk: the manifest, the reference photos, every clip and its sidecar, the soundtrack, the prompts, the reviews and the exports, which are never overwritten.

Your API keys are stored on your computer only. They are never written into a project file or included in usage reporting. The desktop edition sends each key only to its provider. In the browser edition most calls, key included, pass through our own server on their way to the provider, and our server keeps none of it, apart from the log of addresses described below; Lyric Remix Studio, the soundtrack's music and Movie Maker Gemini's Analyze tab call Google directly.

The AI features

Movie Maker Studio generates your production, so unlike an editor it needs a provider for its main work rather than for optional extras. Everything below runs on a key that you supply and pay for directly, and the cost meter shows what you have spent as it accrues.

• Writing the script and the shot prompts. Your menu choices, the descriptions you typed, and your character, vehicle and location details are sent so the script and each shot prompt can be written.
• Research. What you wrote about your film is sent to Grok, which searches the web and X for the real people, places and things in it, or to Gemini, which uses Google Search. The pictures it finds are downloaded from the sites that show them: through our server in the browser edition, and directly from your computer in the desktop edition, where those sites see your IP address.
• Reference photographs. Your descriptions of the cast, vehicles and locations are sent to be photographed.
• Filming each clip. Each shot prompt is sent, together with up to seven of your reference photographs.
• The soundtrack. When you ask for one, your lyric and music directions are sent.
• The SI reviews. Up to 100 small frames from your clips are sent to the reviewer you choose, with the film's title, treatment, goals and shot prompts. The editor's SI Review of Clips and SI Review of Movie also send each clip's file name, length and the words spoken in it, the soundtrack's file name, and the film's resolution and orientation; SI Review of Clips also sends each clip's size, frame rate and measured sound levels and the film's quality setting, and SI Review of Movie up to 12,000 characters of the narration script. Whole clips are never uploaded.
• Narration and the SI narrator. Narrating the film sends its sound (audio only) to xAI. Replacing the spoken words with an SI narrator also sends the text of each line to xAI.

In the desktop edition these calls go from your computer directly to xAI, Google or Anthropic, and Iacoletti Software is not in that path. In the browser edition they pass through our own server, which forwards them and keeps nothing but a log of their addresses; Lyric Remix Studio, the soundtrack's music and Movie Maker Gemini's Analyze tab go from the browser straight to Google. Vercel, which hosts our server, logs the address of each request it handles and of each request our server makes, and keeps that log for one hour to 30 days depending on the plan (Vercel's documentation gives one hour on its Hobby plan, one day on Pro, three days on Enterprise and 30 days with Observability Plus). An address can hold the web address of a picture or a clip being fetched; it never holds your key. What you send is governed by that provider's own privacy policy: x.ai/legal/privacy-policy, policies.google.com/privacy and anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

What we record about you

The application reports how it is used, so that faults can be found and fixed and so that support can identify your licence. It never includes your video, your audio, your narration scripts or your API keys. It does include your film's title, the names of its files and folders, the names of the people and places in it, and up to 60 characters of any text you click on.

• Your email address and order number, supplied by the store when you activate, and again if a later launch finds the licence refunded or disabled. This is how an installation is tied to the purchase that paid for it.
• The last six characters of your licence key, the number of devices activated and, for a Lemon Squeezy licence, its id for this installation. Never the whole key.
• Random identifiers: one for this browser (in the desktop edition, for the application's own storage) and, in the desktop edition, one for the installation, each created at random on first use, and a count of visits.
• Your IP address, kept with each record, and the country, region and city it points to.
• A profile of your computer: operating system and browser, processor count, memory, graphics card, screen and window size, the video formats it plays, storage, connection, battery, time zone and languages; in the desktop edition also the graphics card's name and memory, the Windows build, locale, edition, version and install date.
• Usage: which steps ran, what you clicked and chose, the messages shown to you, whether it worked, how long it took, error text when something fails, the first 300 characters of a research answer that cannot be read, counts such as the number of clips and the resolution chosen, and the site that sent you here.

If you bought from the Microsoft Store, none of the identity above applies to you. That edition has no licence key and Microsoft does not pass your identity to us, so what we hold is the random identifiers, your IP address and approximate location, your machine profile and your usage. Microsoft holds your purchase, not us.

Reporting cannot be turned off in this version. There is no switch for it in the app, and our server cannot refuse one install's reports. To have your records deleted, write to iacolettisoftware@gmail.com. Doing so does not affect your licence.

Why we collect it

To support you when you write to us and to know which licence you hold. To find and fix defects, using the error text and the machine profile that produced them. To understand which features are used and which are abandoned. To handle a refund or a complaint without making you explain your purchase first. Under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation our lawful basis is legitimate interest for analytics and defect diagnosis, and performance of a contract for anything tied to your licence.

What we do not do

We will not send you marketing email. We will not sell your data, rent it or trade it. We will not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We will not build an advertising profile of you, and we will not use your data to train models. It is shared only with the infrastructure that stores it on our behalf: Vercel for hosting and Google for the spreadsheet where the records are kept. They act on our instructions and for no purpose of their own. Some outside services also receive your IP address when a page loads something from them: Google Fonts, which serves some pages' lettering; on our home page, Google's site-icon service and There's An AI For That's badge; and in the browser edition, jsDelivr, if the site's own copy of the video engine cannot be loaded. The desktop edition bought from Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy also asks that store, at each launch, whether your licence is still valid: it sends the store your licence key, and the store sees your IP address.

How long we keep it

There is no fixed period: usage records, including any tied to a licence, are kept until you ask us to delete them.

Your rights

If you are in the UK, the EU, or another jurisdiction with comparable law, you may ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, provide it in a portable form, or stop processing it. Write to iacolettisoftware@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your national data protection authority. Asking us to delete your data does not cancel your licence, and cancelling your licence does not by itself delete your data.

Payment

Purchases are handled by the store you bought from: Microsoft, Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy. They are the merchant of record and they handle payment, invoices, taxes, refunds and chargebacks under their own terms. Iacoletti Software never sees your card details.

The free browser edition

Movie Maker Studio, Web Edition runs the same pipeline in a browser tab. Your files stay on your computer, and assembly and export run in the browser. What its AI features send passes through our own server on its way to the provider (Lyric Remix Studio, the soundtrack's music and Movie Maker Gemini's Analyze tab go straight to Google), and our server keeps none of it, apart from the log of addresses described above. It needs the same provider keys as the desktop edition, and it sends the same material described above, because generating a production is what it does.

The website records the pages viewed, the referring site, your IP address and the place it points to, and which links were pressed.

Children

This software is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
